Car Goes Up In Flames Near Taconic State Parkway In Yorktown A vehicle blaze near a parkway in Northern Westchester sent a column of smoke into the air before it was put out by firefighters. The fire happened in Yorktown on Sunday morning, Aug. 25, when a vehicle was consumed by flames on Underhill Avenue near its crossing with the Taconic State Parkway, according to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Arriving fire crews were soon able to extinguish the blaze, the department said. No injuries were reported.

Village In Westchester To Lower Maximum Speed Limit Ahead Of New School Year Drivers with a lead foot, beware: a municipality in Westchester will soon be lowering its village-wide speed limit, officials announced. Injured Hiker Rescued From Park In Northern Westchester First responders were seen rushing to a park in Northern Westchester to help out an injured hiker stranded in the woods. The rescue happened on Friday, Aug. 24 around 4:15 p.m., when first responders learned a hiker was injured and stuck in the woods at the back of Gedney Park in Chappaqua, according to the Millwood Fire Department. Arriving crews brought a backboard and stokes to the hiker's location and safely took them out of the woods. The hiker was later loaded on an awaiting ambulance, the department added.
